About Shannon Sims
Shannon Sims didn’t plan to become an entrepreneur. But when a two-decade broadcast journalism career — including 13 years as a reporter and anchor at TMJ4, Milwaukee’s NBC affiliate — came to an unexpected crossroads, she did what great journalists do: she found the story in the moment and ran with it.
That story became Mic’d and Ready Media.
Shannon founded her boutique communications firm on a simple but powerful insight: most nonprofits and small businesses are sitting on compelling stories that never make it to air — not because the stories aren’t good, but because no one taught them how to pitch like a journalist. Shannon has. She is one. After 20 years in newsrooms from San Francisco to Milwaukee, she knows exactly what producers are looking for, what pitches get deleted, and what angles make an editor stop scrolling. Now she puts that insider knowledge to work for the clients who need it most — mission-driven organizations and emerging leaders who deserve a spotlight but haven’t known how to claim it.
Her unconventional journey — from classically trained opera singer at Manhattan School of Music, to radio board operator, to one of Milwaukee’s most-watched news desks —taught her that commanding a room, a camera, or a conversation all comes down to one thing: authentic storytelling. The pivot wasn’t part of the plan. The impact is.
Shannon Sims is the founder of Mic’d and Ready Media, a boutique consulting firm specializing in media strategy, story pitching, and broadcast interview coaching for nonprofits, small business and C-suite leaders.
